"The Echo"

by C.C. Miller

'Twas a sheep not a lamb
That strayed away in the parable Jesus told,
A grown-up sheep that strayed away
From the ninety and nine in the fold.
And why for the sheep should we seek
And earnestly hope and pray?
Because there is danger when sheep go wrong:
They lead the lambs astray.
Lambs will follow the sheep, you know,
Wherever the sheep may stray.
When sheep go wrong,
It won't take long till the lambs are as wrong as they.
And so with the sheep we earnestly plead
For the sake of the lambs today,
For when the sheep are lost
What a terrible cost
The lambs will have to pay.

I had this poem given to me as a handout in Sunday school months ago, and I haven't been able to stop thinking about it since. I have carried it around in my purse everyday since then and read it often. I could speak volumes about why I think this is so profound, but the poem is pretty direct. I think it speaks for itself.

yep. normally we hear about how important it is to rescue the '1'. all of the rest of the 99 need to be doing that. normally because we think of how important the '1' is.

but what about the little ".5's" who might be under the "1's" teaching and care??

helping the one creates a chain of goodness moving forward.
